Experience a half day guided ‘SMUGGLERS TRAIL’ tour of the Essex coast and Blackwater Estuary. Hear the tales of the smugglers navigating the many inlets and shifting sands under the cover of whirling mists and coal black nights. See colourful barges and sailing villages with their weather-boarded cottages.

The historic market town of BURY ST EDMUNDS has seen tragedy, drama and greatness in equal measures through its 1000-year history. The town was home to Saint Edmund, the original patron Saint of England. Today you can view the impressive abbey ruins, once the richest, largest and most powerful Benedictine monastery in England!

The Jacobean AUDLEY END HOUSE & GARDENS was one of the largest and most opulent houses in England! Enter the house and explore the impressive great hall, magnificent state apartments, intimate dressing rooms and 18th century gothic-style chapel. Below stairs see the Victorian Service Wing and outside glorious gardens re-modelled by Capability Brown.

Explore the picturesque, medieval town of SAFFRON WALDEN with its rich heritage of buildings. At its heart is St Mary’s Church, the largest parish church in Essex and the colourful timber-framed houses in Castle and Bridge Street. The town also boasts the largest ‘Turf Maze’ of its type in the world and one of only eight still surviving in England.

CLACTON-ON-SEA beach huts and ice cream shops line the seafront of this traditional British seaside resort. Here you’ll discover a Victorian pier, one of the widest in the UK and amusements, a pavilion, a long sandy beach, cliff top promenade and beautiful gardens.
