The royal town of CAERNARFON is set against the backdrop of Snowdonia and wonderful views across the Menai Strait to Anglesey. The town is home to Wales’s most famous castle – CAERNARFON CASTLE, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in the 13th century by Edward I as a royal palace and military fortress. Although the town is dominated by the castle, the narrow cobbled streets lined with Georgian houses, market squares and waterfront are also worth exploring.
PORTMEIRION is where the Italian Riviera meets rural Wales, a beautiful village designed by Clough Williams-Ellis. The village is a riot of colour-washed buildings around a central piazza along with the Gwyllt, a 70 acre subtropical forest with hidden lakes, temples and breathtaking views.
FFESTINIOG RAILWAY is world’s oldest narrow gauge railway with almost 200 years of history. Enjoy a 13½-mile journey between Porthmadog and the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Climb over 700 feet from sea level into the mountains, around tight bends, complete a spiral, while clinging to the side of the mountain or tunnelling through it.
PUFFIN ISLAND CRUISE takes us the to the north of the Menai Strait and a little island that’s hosts an abundance of wildlife including grey seals and many sea birds. The captain will give an informative and entertaining commentary.
