Day 1, 2 & 3
This fantastic 12 day tour takes us across the sea from Harwich to the Hook of Holland (overnight crossing). The next morning we travel through Holland and cross the border into Germany making our way to Hamburg where we stop overnight. From Hamburg we continue north into Denmark, making our way to the town of Hirtshals where we board our overnight ferry to Norway.
Day 4 & 5
Wake up to the stunning scenery of Norway’s west coast as our ferry cruises to Bergen, Norway’s second largest city! We dock in Bergen at 12.30hrs and once we have disembarked we travel the short distance to our hotel where we enjoy a 2 night stay.
BERGEN is a large city by Norwegian standards but it has retained a small-town charm and atmosphere. This city overlooks the sea and is surrounded by seven mountains, its roots date back to the Viking Age and beyond, probably its most photographed site is Bryggen, the old Hanseatic Wharf, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its home to many restaurants, pubs, shops and museums.
Day 6, 7 & 8
This part of the tour is spent exploring the fjords.
Departing Bergen we travel to the Stalheim Hotel, our journey takes us through magnificent mountain scenery past impressive waterfalls and lakes. The Stalheim Hotel has a spectacular location on top of the Stalheimskleiva – overlooking the beautiful Nærøy, Brekke and Jordal valleys.
Excursions during our stay here include:
Norway in a Nutshell – we cruise along the Nærøyfjord, the narrowest and best known of the many arms of the Sognefjord. This fjord is perhaps the most outstanding natural attraction in Norway with its steep mountainsides, hanging valleys, towering peaks, snowfields, waterfalls and small hamlets.
Our cruise takes us to Flam, it’s from here that we join the Flam Railway (Flamsbana).
This spectacular 20km train journey takes you through twisting tunnels which spiral in and out of the mountain, bearing witness to the most daring and skilled engineering in Norwegian railway history.
The scenery is second to none, here rivers cut through deep ravines, waterfalls cascade down the sides of snow-capped mountains and farms cling dizzyingly to sheer slops!
The ‘Snow Road’ – We spend the day touring the Sogndalfjord area and return via the magnificent ‘Snow Road’ which is closed during the winter months !
Today we say farewell to the Stalheim hotel. Our journey takes us south through wonderful scenery passing the small towns of Laerdal and Gol. We arrive Larvik during the afternoon, it’s here we stay overnight.
Day 10, 11 & 12
This morning we board 08:00hrs from Larvik to Hirtshalls. From Hirtshals we travel through Denmark to Germany, once again stopping overnight at Hamburg. The next day we continue our journey south through Germany into Holland where we make our way to the Hook of Holland for our overnight sea crossing to Harwich. The final morning we disembark and continue our homeward journey by road.
